- 2
Pass one clap around the group as quickly as possible.
- 3
Time one complete lap.
- 4
Try once more, then point and reverse the direction mid-lap.

Small group
Run it exactly as written and stop when the timer ends.
Large group
Demonstrate once, start everyone together, and use one unmistakable stop signal.
Virtual
Assign a visible order and pass a wave or hand flash by naming the next person once.
Accessibility & inclusion
- Replace clapping with a visible hand flash, desk tap, word, or switch-activated sound.
- Seat the group in any arrangement with a clear order.
- Treat missed turns as a restart, not elimination.
Why it works—and what can go wrong
Why it works
The class has to watch one another closely, and the single moving cue gathers attention without requiring conversation.
Watch out for
- Avoid elimination and keep volume comfortable for sound-sensitive students.
- Do not attach a lesson, reflection, or public share-out afterward.
- Announce the length, honor it, and move directly into the next task.
