Group size1–100 people

FormatIndividual, Whole group

01

What this accomplishes

A forty-five-second whole-room countdown that raises energy through quick, rhythmic movement and ends before anyone can overthink it.

  • Interrupt fading attention
  • Return the room to the next task quickly
02

Before you begin

Materials

  • None

Preparation

  • Set a visible timer
  • Choose the seated or low-visibility option you will offer
03

What to say

We are doing one fast reset. Follow me, count out loud, and we will be done in forty-five seconds.
04

How to run it

  1. 1

Shake the right hand eight times, then the left hand eight times.

  2. 2

Shake the right foot eight times, then the left foot eight times.

  3. 3

Repeat the sequence with seven shakes per limb, then six, continuing down to one.

  4. 4

Count together and finish cleanly at one.

05

Prompts to use

06

Adapt it to the room

Small group

Run it exactly as written and stop when the timer ends.

Large group

Demonstrate once, start everyone together, and use one unmistakable stop signal.

Virtual

Keep everyone unmuted only if the platform and group size allow it; otherwise count on screen while participants move independently.

07

Accessibility & inclusion

  • Any four comfortable movements can replace the hand-and-foot shakes.
  • Participants may stay seated and use wrists, fingers, shoulders, or facial muscles.
  • Counting silently is always fine.
09

Why it works—and what can go wrong

Why it works

A descending pattern occupies just enough attention to break mental drift, and the pace raises circulation without requiring coordination skill.

Watch out for

  • Demonstrate as you go; do not explain the whole sequence first.
  • Do not turn the break into networking or a discussion.
  • Announce the length, honor it, and move directly into the next task.
