Keep it comfortable and useful.
Make room for everyone
- Let students answer verbally, in writing, with icons, or by selecting from options.
- Keep a visible ‘pass or choose another prompt’ option.
- Avoid prompts about money, family structure, travel, food availability, religion, bodies, or home circumstances.
Watch out for
- Model answers that are genuinely ordinary so students do not escalate into confessions or competition.
- Never require students to report a partner’s answer to the full class.

Pair students and give each person forty-five seconds to share one ordinary detail.
